National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility to be established in Queensland
Griffith University will host the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility (NCCARF) announced on 13 November 2007 by the Commonwealth Government.
Griffith University and the Queensland Government, through the Queensland Climate Change Centre of Excellence (QCCCE) and Department of Emergency Services, won the Australian Greenhouse Office’s competitive bid through establishing a consortium with Macquarie University, Murdoch University, Queensland University of Technology, the University of Newcastle, University of Southern Queensland, James Cook University and the University of the Sunshine Coast.
The new NCCARF will provide national leadership for Australia’s adaptation research effort and will help to establish sectoral and regional adaptation research networks to mobilise the whole research community to tackle adaptation research priorities.
Climate Change Workshops for Tourism Operators (November 2007 – February 2008)
Climate change is becoming an increasingly important issue for the tourism industry. Queensland is projected to become warmer, with sea-level rises, changes in rainfall patterns, and more intense storms and tropical cyclones.
From November 2007 to early 2008, Queensland tourism operators will be encouraged to prepare their businesses for the challenges of climate change through a series of hands-on workshops to be held across the state.
The workshops will be presented by the Queensland Climate Change Centre of Excellence (QCCCE) and organised by Tourism Queensland and the Queensland Government in conjunction with the regional tourism organisations, as one of the key deliverables for the 10 year Queensland Tourism Strategy.
