Premier's Council on Climate Change
The Premier’s Council on Climate Change is an advisory Council established to ensure Queensland’s efforts in addressing climate change are informed by the best available local and national knowledge and experience.
The Council is chaired by Premier of Queensland, Ms Anna Bligh MP, with the Deputy Chair of Minister for Sustainability, Climate Change and Innovation, Mr Andrew McNamara MP.
The Office of Climate Change within the Environmental Protection Agency is secretariat.
The Council, which was announced in December 2007, meets three to four times per year and provides broad, high-level advice about:
- priorities for Queensland Government action to reduce Queensland’s greenhouse gas emissions, including sectoral responses such as sustainable energy options, transport strategies and built environment energy efficiency;
- adaptation measures relevant to Queensland, that assist communities and industries address the inevitable results of climate change;
- priority areas for investment from the $430M Queensland Climate Change Fund;
- opportunities for innovation arising from climate change for communities and the private sector; and
- major implementation issues.
Members of the Council
The Council members are eminent individuals, drawn from a cross-section of relevant areas of expertise and industry, environment, academic and community sectors from across Queensland and Australia.
Members are appointed on the basis of their individual knowledge and expertise rather than as representatives of particular organisations or interest groups.
